Declutter: May 2017

I finally found some time to sit down and look at my makeup collection, and I took a real hard look at it. There are some products I’ve had sitting around for a while, hinting that they wanted to leave but I always say I’ll use them, I really will! And then I never do.

So today I’m going to show some products I decided to declutter and the reason why. At some point in the future, I will talk about all the nitty gritty involved in decluttering, but until then this will give you an idea of how I go about it.

So the call to declutter came to me and I answered, although begrudgingly. Usually, if I notice something that I haven’t used in awhile or just find myself not wanting to use it, I’ll declutter. But sometimes I ignore that feeling and things sort of pile up. Which is exactly what happened now.

The first thing I got rid of is the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Mauvember 2016. I’m still trying out the formula for the Amuse Bouche lipsticks, but as soon as they announced that they were doing another Mauvember shade, I was intrigued. I picked up the 2015 shade, despite not being a purple lipstick fan, and then sold it a few months later. And I’m doing the same thing with the 2016 shade. I will say it’s warmer than the other one and looks better on me, but I still don’t like purple lipstick on me. I did manage to resist it at first, but got suckered into it around the Sephora sale last year. I’m hoping this year I’ll be able to resist it!

Next up is the Lancome Effacernes Long-Lasting Undereye Concealer in 210 Light Buff. I was looking for a new undereye concealer last year(still am), and I got this when I redeemed a whole bunch of Shoppers Optimum points last year. I thought the colour would be good, but it’s too dark and the formula is just meh. I’ve held onto it despite never reaching for it because I’ve been panning my other concealer’s, but it was time I admit defeat.

Another Lancome product is a mascara sample, the Hypnose Drama. I’ve tried it before and hated it, but kept it around so I could give it to my mother. That was months ago. And I’ve seen my mother countless time so it’s time I just give it to her.

Next is the Benefit High Brow brow highlighter. It’s pretty, like a lot of makeup is, but it’s a bit hard to blend sometimes. And it’s a bit too pink for my skin tone. Plus, if I want a browbone highlight I’ll just use a white eyeshadow or shimmery shade. So it needs to go!

Second last is my Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette. I lusted after this for months and then splurged on it during last year’s Sephora sale. And guess what? I’ve barely used it since I’ve been concentrating on panning other contour and highlight products. This is a big regret purchase and I need to let it go.

Speaking of products I regret purchasing, here comes my final product, the Nars Narsissist Dual Intensity Blush Palette. This is the first iteration, if there are any others, and I was intrigued by the dual intensity formula so I took a shot. It’s lovely and the colours are pretty, but they’re dupable in the collection and I just never reach for it.

So there are the few products I’ve been holding onto for a while that I have made the decision to let go. I am freeing them from the prison that is my makeup collection and letting them be used by someone else.

It does feel really good to let go of these, despite really liking some of them. As I’ve gone through my Project 100 Pan this year, I’ve realized that I am okay with only one or two options of certain products, which I will touch more on in an upcoming post. So having multiples of the same products, like contour or blushes, just really isn’t necessary.

I hope this might inspire you to look at your own collection and let go of some of the products you have been holding onto for too long now. Let me know if you decide to declutter somethin in the comments below.
