As much as I haven’t publicly posted my inventory numbers in a while, I discovered that at some point near the end of last year and the beginning of this year I made an updated inventory. Either way, I thought it would be fun to see what has changed, if anything. I know I have gotten rid of a lot and finished up a ton of things, so let’s see if any of the numbers truly went down.
I made it a whole month without buying any makeup and it was relatively easy. Continue reading “January 2017 Recap”
I figured I should have at least something up here today and what better thing to talk about than hoarding things! Continue reading “Small Hoarding Tendencies”
New year, new you, right? Eh, not really. New year, vaguely better you. Now that’s my jam.
I’ve made a lot of progress this year and have some big sights for 2017. A lot of my bad habits have been improved on in the second half of the year, though I still have a lot of work to do. I’ve spent the past few weeks mulling over what I want to accomplish beauty-wise for 2017 and I think I have a solid list.
I sat down at my vanity earlier and went through my eyeshadows and other products and destashed a bunch of things. Eyeshadows went to the trash because they’re depotted and no one would want then and the rest is in my “to sell or to trash” drawer. All of this to say, I have something to write about today.
Way back in February or so I participated in an activity thread on r/MakeupRehab and posted my inventory with numbers. I realized I never posted that number here since I’m still working on updating my inventory and getting it to where I want it to be. So today, I will be telling you my inventory through numbers! Continue reading “Check In: August 2016”
There’s a lot of stuff this time around. Nothing completely gone yet, but this progress is stupendous!
First up are the two powder foundations from NYX and Maybelline. Both are just okay but I really want to see them go.
Next is a bigger pan on my Smashbox Contour Trio on the highlight shade. It’s lovely, but I’ll be glad to see it gone.
Up next is the Stila highlight from some random palette. It’s okay, I just want to prove to myself that I can finish a full-size highlighter. I will say, it’s much smaller than most highlighters, but I can convince myself otherwise.
Second to last is the Becca Afterglow Palette, with Moonstone being almost gone. SO excited to see it gone! I love it, but the colour matches my skin a bit too well which is personally not my look fo highlighters. I like to be glowing from space, not just the next country.
Last are the eyeshadows. Considerably more pan on the matte white and matte taupe colours and maybe a smidge more on Stila Kitten. The one in the corner, a shimmery burgundy purple is kind of a cheat. I accidentally smushed my fingernail into it while depotting it, I think, so the pan that is seen is not from my actual use, but I am trying to use it up and get more pan showing.
That’s 9 pans showing. Look at me go!
I may have fallen off the horse. School and work, the usual excuses, have been kicking my butt and it’s been hotter than Satan’s balls out, so I haven’t been as good as I should have been. Plus, lots of things were either super flashy new or restock of something pretty.
I’m going to use the excuse of finishing up a lot of products and hitting pan on a ton of things, so that excuses my bad month. But overall it was good. Seemed to drag on and never end, but I also don’t remember what I did during the month.
Nevertheless, I’ll sort it out and get better. I have a bunch of posts I’m working on, even one where I destahed a bunch of eyeshadows! Keep your eye open for that!
So, April happened. I think. It was kind of a blur of exams and studying and working full time the last two weeks.
I did do a lot of shopping during the month, though the biggest was my planned Sephora haul during the sale week. The others were small things here and there and I’m moving past them.
This month I’ll get back on the train and focus more on the blog. I am going to be moving in July, which is ridiculously soon so I need to get through as many products as possible so I can move with the least amount of stuff.
I am making good progress on some skin care stuff, I currently have a moisturizer and face primer that have been scrapped clean into little jars, as well as an acne product I finished up the same way. So go me.
All in all, April was not my best month, but that only means that I have room to improve and I’m going to do it.
So, I think it’s been a couple months since I posted my first pan post and I can successfully say that my pans have gotten larger. Though it really isn’t apparent when I look at them, but compared to the first photo, holy crap. And I finished a couple of deluxe size samples! Go me!
See my first pan post here:Show Me That Pan
First up, I finished 3 things! One was not shown in the previous post, possibly because it was finished before. It was a Becca pressed foundation, nothing to write home about. I did finish the Becca highlight, which is sad but also wonderful. Love the Becca formula but the colour was not perfect for me for the non-summer months.
Smashbox Contour Palette- Highlight shade
Basically, the same as last time, haven’t used it much. Need to get on that.
Stila- Bliss, Kitten and cream shade(from the In The Light palette)
Look at all dat pan on Bliss! Go me! Also doing pretty well with the cream shade, which I used as an inner corner highlight and brow bone highlight. I surprisingly hit pan on Kitten, which I would never have thought of happening. I sometimes use that on top of the cream shade for the highlight, sometimes all over the lid. Bliss is always in the crease. Always.
So, 4 things have pan showing on them, which is pretty good in my books. And three of them eyeshadows at that! I really want to hit pan on a few more things, not necessarily just continuing what I have. We’ll see what ends up happening though.
This is the big post. My year(ish) long plan.
Here we go.
The whole point of starting this blog and 2016 is to take control of my spending and my makeup collection. Stop buying stuff I won’t use just because it’s cheap, buying because I’m stressed or any other excuse.
So far so good. I’ve managed to successfully do 2 months of a low buy and I can say that I’ve had four shopping trips where I’ve bought makeup his year. Now, not to say I haven’t gone looking at makeup, cause that would be about 100 times at least. But I have been able to say no, even to new things. I can recognize the feelings of want while rationally talking myself out of things. I can think back to review videos and demos and really think if that product would work well in my collection. Most of the time it has been rather easy, though I do have my moments of lapse. A couple Shoppers trips could have been much cheaper but you have to mess up sometime.
So, onto the important stuff.
2016 = Low Buy
I want to keep my shopping limited, so I’ve given myself limits and maximum shopping trips. I am allowed to purchase drugstore makeup once a month. And not on one day only, but only once at one store. I may bend the rule if I see something I need somewhere else, but I will try to avoid that.
Sephora is a little trickier. I’m going to set three official times I can buy, and one sort of vague season. The 15% off sale in April is the first. No real limit, though I would like to spend less than 300$ taxes in. I do need to get a foundation or two as well as some other things and there are new things I want to get and it will be just before exams, so it’s a reward to myself.
Second is my birthday. No limit as of yet, I’ll how much I want to spend and how much I have saved by that point.
Third one is the 20% off sale in December, again, no clue what my limit is.
The other option I have is the vague season. Otherwise known as the holiday 2016 season. Things start to go up in September and I will allow myself to buy whatever my heart desires, but with the voice at the back of my head reminding of all I have learned. I won’t buy it unless I really have a need for it or it’s too good of a deal to pass up. I tend to do the bulk of my purchasing at this point in the year so I’m okay with keeping no budget for this.
Of course, all of this depends on my financial situation. If I don’t gots the money I don’t gots the money. So far this has been working out well so I can only hope it continues.
I do want to pan more products, especially my powder products. I’ve managed to pan few so far and have a few more with just a bit left so this goal will be easy. I really need to downsize my eyeshadows so these will go hand in hand.
I also want to get a good vanity set up going. That will happen when I move in August and I make a trip to Ikea. I just have to hold out with my current set-up, no matter how much I dislike it. I can do it.
And that’s it. Low buy, once a month drugstore trip and 3 planned Sephora trips. Pan a whole bunch of things and continue paring down the collection.
